This beloved timeless classic tells the story of Ponyboy Curtis, a young Greaser in 1960s Tulsa, Oklahoma, who navigates a world of class conflict and violence between his gang and the rival Socs.

Auditions consist of cold reads from the script and light movement work. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. 

Video Auditions are accepted and will consist of a 1 minute monologue of your choosing. Please email videos to info@brokethespians.org by Aug 1st at 7pm. Those who submit videos may be called back, where in-person attendance in mandatory. 

Auditions open to actors aged 15+.

This is an open-gender and identity-expansive casting process. All actors, regardless of gender identity, expression, race, ethnicity, body type, or ability, are encouraged to audition. We are especially seeking LGBTQIA+ performers and those with lived experiences that reflect the themes of found family, struggle, and self-discovery.

First read falls the week of August 10-16 depending on actor availability, with rehearsals occurring Tues/Thurs/Sun evenings afterward. Tech is October 10-16. Performances are scheduled for Oct 17-19 & 24-26, Fri/Sat evenings and Sun matinees.

All rehearsals and performances are in San Marcos TX. 

Available Roles: 

• Ponyboy Curtis - 14. A dreamer with a cowboy spirit. The youngest Greaser and youngest brother of three. Curious, introspective, a storyteller.

• Johnny - 16 but looks younger. Suffers abuse at home. Sensitive and loyal, he has found family in the Greasers.

• Darry - 20. The oldest Curtis brother. Strong, athletic, intelligent, hardworking, strict. A former golden boy, his future was ripped away from him after his parents were killed in a tragic accident.

• Dallas - 17. Wily, rebellious, audacious, impulsive, and reckless. The outlier of the Greasers.

• Sodapop - 16. The middle Curtis brother. Charismatic, exceptionally handsome, and a high-school drop-out, he now works at the local gas station. Ponyboy's security blanket at home.

• Two-Bit Matthews: 18. A natural clown with an infectious sense of humor, extremely loyal to the Greasers and to the Curtis family. One of the best fighters among the Greasers.

• Cherry - 16. A Soc. A dreamer. Confident, privileged, curious, open-minded. Has been conditioned to be what society expects her to be: Bob's Girlfriend and Captain of the Cheerleading team.

• Marcia - 16. A Soc. Randy's girlfriend, Cherry's bestfriend. Sees everything.  

• Bob - 18, white. The leader of the Socs, Tulsa Society's golden boy. Cocky, charming, dazzling, a natural leader. Has the whole world by the tail. Cherry's boyfriend and the captain of the football team.

• Randy - 18, white. Soc. Strong, sensitive.

• Sandy - 16. Sodapop's girlfriend.

• Ensemble - includes Socs, Greasers, Mrs. O'Bryant, Jerry, Doctor, Nurse, Paul, and Mr. Syme
